RIMMF MARC Mapping

We are beginning our MARC mapping endeavours for RIMMF data as simply as we can: you enter descriptive data and relationships for an entity in a RIMMF form and want to export it to a MARC record for use in your ILS database.

We call the mapping for this Rda2Marc, and we use separate columns for mapping to MARC Bibliographic and MARC Authorities records:

Once we have Rda2Marc settled, we will then turn our minds to the reverse situation: you find a MARC record for an entity and want to import it to RIMMF to save typing the information again. We can this mapping Marc2Rda, and use two more columns for mapping from MARC Bibliographic and MARC Authorities records:

  • Marc2Rda

Of course, neither of these mappings are in fact simple, even though we have gone for the 80% solution: map the easy stuff, let a human finish off the record manually; so we will be listing the problems/issues we encounter and welcome any ideas and suggestions you might have to offer. Please do, let us know what you think.

Additional syntax notes:

    • no = not applicable
    • blank = not safe to bring over
